With the goal of amplifying the voices, culture, and triumphs of the black community,
I created an illustration that would embody the essence of what Juneteenth is about.
My concept was to marry the past and present. Both people extending their hands out to one another,
the stripes of the American flag serving as “shackles” while the field of cotton transitions into a more modern look with lush greenery and vibrant colors.
